Wyatt’s First Birthday

One year ago yesterday I gave birth to a handsome, energetic, happy and STRONG little boy. He came in a very terrifying time but OVERCAME so many obstacles in such a short period of time.

I was admitted to the hospital with the expectation of being there for two weeks to reach 34 weeks gestation and be able to have a safe delivery and Wyatt’s lungs to be fully developed with no complications. Little did we know that the very next afternoon I would be taken in for an emergency cesarean section because of kidney damage. Wyatt was born 8 weeks premature at 5:51pm on Sunday, May 3rd, 2015. That day was the start of a long journey that I never in a million years thought at 19 years old not even through my first year of marriage would ever have experienced.

During his first week of life he burst a hole in his lung and was hooked up to a chest tube, ventilator, and feeding tube. After they started giving him breast milk he started making a HUGE turn around and defied all expectations that any doctor gave us. Within a month he went from 4 pounds 3 ounces to 5 pounds and fully operating on his own.The following 3 months after were filled with appointments with heart, lung, and developmental specialists all trying to make sure he was developing correctly.

I am so blessed to say that as of today he has been cleared from all specialists and is a normal, happy, healthy little boy. While our experience with a premature baby was very easy and routine compared to some, it was the most terrifying experience of my life. Having a child that you can’t hold, change his diaper, make better, or take home is the worst feeling in the world. Through this whole situation I learned a lot about myself and my marriage.

Happy Birthday little man we are so blessed and thankful for you and cannot wait to see the person you grow up to be.
