As I crawled back into bed for the third time Saturday night, praying that God would tell his teeth to pause for a few hours so we could get some rest…God decided that at 3:15am for the fifth night in a row of having to get up with a miserable little man, was the perfect time to teach me a lesson.
We as adults go through periods of “spiritual teething” (can you tell I was sleep deprived and despised teeth at that moment LOL). If you have ever spent any lengthy amount of time around a teething baby you will know two things:
A- That baby wants to be comforted (If anything like mine will want to cuddle ALL the time) and usually they want mama or daddy.
B- It is a very painfully, slow process that happens regularly as they grow.
How on earth is a baby teething related to our faith?! Well it is a very simple explanation but a very frustrating and difficult thing to go through. When we are “spiritually teething” we want the same things as a baby does such as:
A- Comfort from our Heavenly Father.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear now evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me. ~ Psalm 23:4
Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I. ~ Isaiah 58:9
B- We will always have trials to help us mature in our faith.
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. ~James 1:2-4
This was a HUGE lesson for me that I think I will always look back on throughout my life because life does get painful and frustrating but we have to always remember one thing…God knows what he is doing and is always there to comfort us!
